AA Personal Loans Overview

The AA logo
It feels like it’s been a long year, doesn’t it? Working so hard in the past months, you feel you’ve earned a fancy trip to Europe. Or a fancy new Tiffany ring. Maybe it’s even fancy cooking classes; we won’t judge! Whatever tickles your fancy, you deserve it. And with AA Personal Loans, you can make it come true.

Worried about how much it will cost you? The AA personal loan calculator can show you estimates of your monthly repayment.

Terms from 1 to 10 years. Representative example: 5 year £10,000 loan with comparison rates from 2.8% to 49.9% APR would cost between £10,728 and £27,321, including fees. The interest can vary between £728 and £17,321.

AA Personal Loans review

The AA has always specialized in providing car financing, car care, and travel hacks. But, The AA also offers personal loans that can fit the needs of any customer. These loans normally have the following key features:

  • Term between 1 to 7 years
  • Quote that doesn’t affect your credit score
  • Fixed APR (2.8% at the lowest for non-members)
  • Credit decision within minutes (just enough time for a cup of coffee or two!)
  • Zero arrangement or set-up fees
  • Access to funds within 2 working days
  • Loan repayment via direct debit
  • A year’s worth of Basic Breakdown Cover (makes your car go “ooh-la-la!”)

Not yet convinced to take out an AA Personal Loan? You may want to get a quote from here first and explore your options.

What Else Should I Know?

The AA also offers debt consolidation loans and top-up loans. For these loans, the terms may vary from the ones listed above. As a further note for top-up loans, you can either:

  • Combine the old loan and the new loan into one monthly payment; or
  • Take out a second new loan.

If you’re an existing AA member, here’s some fantastic news. You’ll have access to APR’s that are 1% lower across the board. Why, even the world’s best limbo players would have trouble going that low!

Please note, though, that the Bank of Ireland UK provides all AA Personal Loans. AA Financial Services Limited is only a registered credit broker, not a registered lender.

How to apply for an AA personal loan

Like most banks, The AA has a set of requirements that borrowers must meet. You can apply for a personal loan with them if you:

  • Have been a UK resident in the past 3 years
  • Are at least 21 years old (but not 70 upon the end of the loan)
  • Earn above £12,000 every year
  • Own a UK-based account with a direct-debit feature
  • Maintain a good credit score
  • Aren’t bankrupt
  • Don’t expect any major changes in your income that may affect your loan repayments

After meeting all of the above, you can apply on The AA’s website. This applies to both members and non-members.

The AA will perform a full credit search after you apply for the loan.

These rates can change without further notice. All rates quoted are per annum.

The AA FAQs

Will my payments be fixed throughout the life of the loan?

You bet they will be! The APR will stick like glue for the whole loan term. You’ll never have to worry about any repayments suddenly going through the roof.

What APR will I get for my loan?

The AA factors in four things for this. First would be the loan amount, and second would be the loan term. Third would be if you are a current member of The AA or not. The last, and probably most important factor, is your credit profile. Chances for lower rates are higher with an AA membership and an outstanding credit score.

What is a “Basic Breakdown Cover”?

This is a type of insurance The AA offers that protects from car breakdowns. This can include benefits such as 24/7 roadside repairs and travel assistance. When you apply for the AA Personal Loan, the insurance will come free of charge. (If you are already a member, this will only serve as an add-on.)

I want the lower APR’s of AA members. How do I become a member?

You will have to secure breakdown cover directly from The AA first. Please visit The AA’s website for more details on how to do this.
